I have a cousin in Japan. He seems like a cool guy. Him and I have similar interest when it comes to the alcohol industry, especially pertaining to whisk
ey. I’ve only ever met him once when I was small kid and when he was in his late twenties, but thanks to the internet and social media, we’ve been able to at least visually see how each other are doing.
In the past few years, I’ve became incredibly dedicated to the alcohol industry, and he noticed. My parents flew to Japan for my mom to see some of her family. Unfortunately I was unable to travel with them, but of course I sent a few bottles of whiskey from the distillery I work for as gifts.
As a thank you, my cousin Roy, sent back a bottle of Suntory Whisky Special Reserve Portopia 1981. This bottle is commemorative bottle distilled and bottled for the Kobe Port Island Exposition in 1981 on a man made island in Kobe, Japan to celebrate the Creation of a new Cultural City on the Sea.
I’ve tried to Google this bottle to learn more, but as of right now, I’m a little out of luck. Will report more as soon I find details. I also emailed Suntory in hopes of more details. If you know anything, PLEASE reach out here!
This will be a bottle I can guarantee I will drink eventually, but unfortunately not now. I will wait for a day when the time is right, and I can share this with someone special.
